  • 12" Leather Buckler

The buckler is a defensive weapon used since the 12th century and it was in use until the 18th century. It is well known that a light and resistant buckler was sought in the civilian environments, able to withstand the attack of the weapons, lighter than those used in war. The boiled leather buckler appears in many written references that talk about the piece itself (Cuir bouilli). This piece has proven to be a perfect balance between protection and lightness.

This mode has in its centre a shield boss of steel which has 2 mm of thickness rimmed by a piece of hardened leather of 9 mm and fixed by 4 rivets; thus achieving a sturdy and extraordinary piece for both defence and attack.

The piece comes with a steel grip and is topped with rosewood with brass rivets. We can find this kind of decoration in similar pieces of that time like knives because it was a typical style among weapons of this type.

    Material: Steel, leather and wood.
    Diameter: 33 cm
    Shield boss diameter: 13 cm
    Shield boss thickness: 0.2 cm
    Grip width: 11 cm.
    Weight: 1.35 kg

All sizes are approximate and vary from piece to piece. Leather is a natural product therefore there could be some variants in colour.

  • 12" Red Dragon Buckler - 14 gauge

This buckler has been developed with some of the top HEMA schools in Europe with durability and price in mind. It is constructed from 14 gauge steel making it durable enough to take the abuse that everyday practice in the salle throws at it. It is ideal for both I.33 and Bolognese systems. The boss is well riveted to the face of the buckler and the grip/handle is raised at the back to allow for a padded glove, but not raised to the extent that it adversely affects manoeuvrability. A great buckler at a great price!
