  • Sticklestad Viking Sword

On July 29, 1030, Christian King Olaf and his men faced the mighty army of their heathen opponents – which was double the size – on the battlefield at Stiklestad in Norway (90 km north of Trondheim). Olaf fell, but his army was victorious. The Christianization of Norway could begin!

The wonderful Viking sword now called Sticklestad was the type used at this famous battle. It was as effective for cuts as it was for thrusts, which means it was the perfect sword for close combat. The wide fuller on both sides makes this edged weapon lightweight. The sword handles like an extension of your arm. The wooden grip is wrapped in suede for better manageability and it comes with a handsome, matching scabbard. The copper-filled pattern on the crossguard and five-lobed pommel give the hilt of our Sticklestad Viking sword a squat, powerful look.

  • Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword

Although Basket-Hilt swords appeared throughout Britain from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the seventeenth and eighteenth-century Scottish highlander has become legendary. Our Basket-Hilt Broadsword, replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England, carries a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-18th century. It is likely that the blade of the original sword, marked “Andrea Ferara”, was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined. The hilt is crafted of stainless steel, to minimize maintenance, while the blade is forged in high-carbon steel. The grip is covered with wire-wrapped genuine ray skin and the basket liner, like the original, is crafted in fabric-covered leather. The scabbard is leather-covered.

  • Swept Hilt Rapier

This Swept-Hilt Rapier features classical lines, with a high-carbon steel flex-tempered blade, a stainless steel hilt (for reduced maintenance) and a hardwood grip. The hilt is of the same size as the museum piece on which it is based, providing an authentic “feel” in the user’s hand and weight and balance also match originals. The blade is interchangeable with our “Practical” blade (OH2255) which is designed for safety in rapier sparring. The matching Main Gauche (SH2198) may also be equipped with a sparring blade.

Our Renaissance-style Rapiers trace their origins to early 17th century Europe, where swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman’s education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe.

  • Practical Bastard Sword

By customer request Paul Chen has produced a re-enactment version of our SH2250 Bastard sword. The blade is forged in 5160 high-carbon steel, to minimize burring, and the transverse thickness of the guard has been increased, both to provide adequate strength for re-enactment use and to present a safer profile at the ends of the guard. Another innovation is the provision of an all-leather scabbard, in contrast with the rigid scabbards normally provided with our Practical swords - this is designed both to provide an extra margin of safety when combatants fall on the scabbard in battle and also to minimze the need for replacement scabbards. The sword is supplied with the grip and scabbard in a neutral-colored leather to allow customization to the owners taste.

  • Scottish Basket Hilt Sword

Basket hilt swords have a special status in the history of swords: basket hilts represent the most advanced development of a dagger hilt but they are combined with wide, heavy blades like the ones found on medieval swords. The Scottish basket hilt sword is a very distinctive example because the hilt is unusually round and is traditionally lined with red fabric. The steel blade has three fullers and its width puts it squarely within the cutting weapon category. Although this basket hilt sword is single-edged, two sharpened edges are more typical. Made of wood and leather, the grip is wrapped with a metal cord. Our basket hilt sword comes with a black leather scabbard featuring a mount and chape.

  • Sir William Marshal Sword - Damascus Steel

The Paul Chen single-hand Damascus Steel Marshall Sword from Hanwei sets new standards of quality and authenticity in broadsword construction. The sword is based on an original, now in a British museum, used by one of England’s finest knights, Sir William Marshall, who served the crown faithfully under Henry II, Richard the Lionheart and Jack Lackland. This sword features a forged - folded Swedish powder steel blade with excellent handling characteristics. Tempered to a tough HRC 54, the blade section features a central ridged fuller and full-length distal taper - a tough test for the bladesmith but resulting in a superb combination of speed and strength. The grip is leather wrapped and laced and the guard and pommel are elegant in their functional simplicity. The scabbard is leather-covered with steel mounts. Truly a sword for the connoisseur.

  • Vendel Viking Sword Spatha

Between 1881 and 1883, excavations in the Swedish village of Vendel brought a total of 14 graves to light. Researchers there found a number of weapons and pieces of armour dating from the 6th to the 8th century. These artefacts were so important that even today, similar swords from the same epoch are called "Vendel type." This sword is also contemporary with the period of the Norse hero Beowulf.

With its very straight blade and wide fuller, our spatha is a good example of this type. Another common features of these weapons is that their crossguards and pommels are both made of metal parts combined with organic material and riveted. Only warriors who distinguished themselves on the battlefield had a ring at the top of their pommel. The tang of this Vendel Spatha is enclosed by a grip of fine wood. The scabbard is made of leather and can be worn over your shoulder.

  • Bastard Sword - Antiqued

The strong and fearless Swiss and Germans originally carried these early weapons, although Bastard swords soon became popular in other parts of continental Europe and the British Isles. The term “Bastard” undoubtedly comes from the fact that the sword, because of its design, has no legitimate claim to being classified as either a uniquely single-handed or two-handed weapon. The Bastard Sword was a weapon developed for the use of the foot soldier and had become quite common by the early 1500’s. The combat styles developed for the Bastard Sword were the particular speciality of the Northern Europe Cultures, with the German nations being at the forefront in its development and use. Our Bastard Sword is finished in an antique patina, making for an outstanding authentic appearance.

  • Lowlander Claymore

Wielded with untamed ferocity on many a Gaelic battlefield, the massive Lowlander sword vividly illustrates the might of the Scots of old. Known as "Slaughter-Swords" in the 16th century, these were the swords of choice for Scottish mercenaries of the period, and at close to six feet long the Lowlander (SH2065) faithfully replicates a surviving museum piece. Though by far the largest sword ever offered by The Knight Shop, the Lowlander is beautifully proportioned and balanced. The typically Scottish quatrefoils in the ring guards attest to the heritage of this imposing piece. A wall mount is provided to allow the transplanted Gael to display his sword with pride.
