  • Padded Training Katana

This is a two-handed sword, with the blade made of soft, elastic components, which enables you full safety during training. Outer fabric guarantees long life of the product and high resistance for any damage of blade. The Blade has an additional core hardening. This sword is designed for thrusting practice, or for light training in pairs without heavy strength involved. It is not intended to use this weapon to hit any hard, metal or sharp items. Used too much whilst having hard hits while fighting may cause damage to them. The plastic hilt is covered with rubber for stronger and stable grip. Rounded guard (tsuba) is made of plastic, a soft disc with openwork design.

Safety: For safety reasons, we suggest to use groin protectors and masks for face protection (especially eyes) during the training with this type to the weapon.

Important: This type of weapon is designed for light training without the use of heavy protective gear. Hits on hard elements, for example, wooden shields, or metal masks without soft overlays may cause damage of the weapon.

  • Practical Rapier - 43" Blade

    1 Review(s)

The Schlaeger Rapiers utilize a popular swept hilt, modified to accommodate Hanwei's schlaeger blades in 37" (SH1099) and 43" (SH1098) lengths. These tapered blades provide a superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, making for a faster sword.

Paul Chen's Renaissance-style Rapiers trace their origins to early 17th century Europe, where swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman’s education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe.

These very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They are designed to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today’s re-enactment societies.

The blades are crafted from 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to 50HRC, which restricts edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and protection against brittleness. While the blades are substantial, they are fullered to provide balance and good handling characteristics. They feature 1/16” wide edges and rounded tips for safety. The tangs are also substantial, with radiused corners at the blade shoulders and no welds.

  • Hutton Sabre

One of the rapidly growing arts within historical fencing societies is that of sabre fencing in the late 19th century Italian style, originating with fencing masters who were employed to train mounted troops in the effective use of the military sabre. The Milanese fencing master Guiseppe Radaelli, is credited with starting the development of this style, while Salvatore Pecoraro introduced changes and refinements which resulted in the technique finally adopted for sabre at the Military Masters School in Rome. The hilt designs developed by Radaelli and Pecoraro have been reproduced in our fencing sabers, with stainless steel guards and wire-wrapped sharkskin-pattern grips. The high-carbon flex-tempered steel blades By Hanwei closely follow the proportions of the period and are round-tipped for safety. The blade and hilt of the “Hutton” sabre are closer to the style of the true military sabre.

  • Practical Cup Hilt Rapier

Fencing in the Renaissance style plays a prominent part in historical re-enactment, combining the quickness of light blades with the structure and spirit of the duel. Designed for the rapier fencer with a preference for the cup-hilt style who wishes to spar in safety, This Paul Chen  Practical Cup-Hilt Rapier from Hanwei fits the bill perfectly. The rapier blade is similar in design to the practical blades for the swept-hilts but the length of the tang is adapted to the cup-hilt. The Hanwei SH2262 Main Gauche matches this rapier.

  • Practical Bastard Sword

By customer request Paul Chen has produced a re-enactment version of our SH2250 Bastard sword. The blade is forged in 5160 high-carbon steel, to minimize burring, and the transverse thickness of the guard has been increased, both to provide adequate strength for re-enactment use and to present a safer profile at the ends of the guard. Another innovation is the provision of an all-leather scabbard, in contrast with the rigid scabbards normally provided with our Practical swords - this is designed both to provide an extra margin of safety when combatants fall on the scabbard in battle and also to minimze the need for replacement scabbards. The sword is supplied with the grip and scabbard in a neutral-colored leather to allow customization to the owners taste.
