A Brilliant StartReview by Ollie

In my opinion, this is the perfect starter weapon for a beginner. A similar weight to the steel training swords we use in our HEMA club, it feels very comfortable to wield, especially with the extended pommel option that I chose.

Some people have said that the rubber on the handle can be a bit loose fitting, but my sword seems to have a perfect fit. This may change over time, but we shall see.

All in all, I’m very happy with the sword! (Posted on 10/06/2022)
Decent product, touch too expensive.Review by Phoenix

I bought this a few months ago for something a bit beefier to practice with at home during lockdown. It came with a very slight warp in the blade but nothing that was hard to get out, but it does tend to warp back slightly now and then. The overall construction feels very solid although the grip does tend to slide around a bit but its nothing a bit of 5 min epoxy couldn't fix. In my eyes, for what it is, its a touch too expensive but would totally recommend to anyone who wants something thats high quality. (Posted on 16/11/2020)

I'm an airsofter who uses this sword as a melee weapon at certain sites that allow it, as a result, I've put this blade through hell against similar blades bought by other players from here as well, it's worth every penny and more! (Posted on 19/09/2019)

We used the Red Dragon sword for some years. They provide in my opinion the best choice regarding cheapness and closeness to steel trainers. Obviously steel hema swords are generally better, but they are expensive and require more protective gear. For starting a hema class, I think those polypropylene are perfect (Posted on 15/11/2018)
Great for beginners and light sparringReview by Malte

We use these swords with steel pommels in our training group and so far I couldn't find a more durable and well balanced training sword. The steel pommel gives it a bit more weight and moves the POB closer to the hilt. In this configuration they are really good for technique training as well as light sparring with limited protection. They especially top most other wasters in flexibility, which is a big plus for safety in thrusts.
The only drawback I could find so far is the sometimes loose fit of the rubber handle. It varies from sword to sword but one some of them it seems to be a bit loose. Luckily you usually don't recognize it, when you hold them firmly.

In my opinion this is the right trainings sword for most beginners and even advanced fighters if only light protection is available! (Posted on 08/10/2018)
Excellent Beginner ProductReview by Daniel

These synthetic blades are very tough. They have almost every property you could desire, flexibility, durability, quality and balance. Although they weigh half of what a steel counterpart might, they have a balance approximately 6 inches from the quillons which makes it handle very well as a training sword.

The problems I have it are specifically with the grip which you can feel doesn't sit flat against the tang. If I could redesign the handle, I would replace the rubber grip with a more solid abs plastic one with a rubberised coating to sit tight against the tang and be held on by the pommel. Incidentally I would also get the extended pommel next time, since I'm a slightly above average sized person and a little extra length on the handle would be nice.

The flexibility is good for safety in the thrust against light or even no protection. However the nylon blade may end up warping over time.

However these are nit-picking problems and I honestly think this is one of the best products designed for purpose on the HEMA market. (Posted on 06/05/2018)

Do not worry about the plastic! It's very tough! I've practised a couple of hours with it now against my friend's Japanese Redwood Bokken and there is not a single dent in this product, unlike the bokken. It's rigid enough that it's not floppy to fence with and will flex in the final third of the blade on a thrust as claimed. The balance is good too sitting about 6" in front of the cross-guard and the weight is good also.

I only have two minor niggles. Firstly the grip is very good although doesn't fit that snug and so there is a little wiggle room. This may be becuase they are designed to be interchangeable and I must say that I purchased this product from the Knight Shop in its component parts which could be the reason.
Secondly the cross-guard is not made of the same material as the blade and is made of a softer more flexible plastic. This personally has been no problem at all but I can see some potential for premature wear and tear if it takes a few good hits.

It's a very good piece of training equipment and comes highly recommended. For the price I can't see much better or many ways to improve upon it. (Posted on 03/02/2015)
